How to get a Telegram bot token from BotFather

Last updated: 8 November 2026

Every Telegram bot has a secret token. BotifyHost needs it to run your bot. You create bots and tokens with Telegram's official bot, @BotFather.

Create a bot

  1. Open Telegram and search for @BotFather (it has a blue verified tick).
  2. Send /newbot.
  3. Send a display name, for example My Shop Helper.
  4. Send a username ending in bot, for example myshop_helper_bot.
  5. BotFather replies with a token that looks like 123456789:AA.... Copy it.

Keep your token secret

Anyone with the token can control your bot. Do not post it in groups, screenshots or public code. If it leaks, send /revoke to BotFather, choose the bot, and update the new token on BotifyHost.

Changing the token later

BotifyHost saves your token in the bot's .env file as BOT_TOKEN. To change it, open the File Manager, edit .env, save, and Restart the bot.

One token, one place

A token can only run in one place at a time. If the same bot also runs on your computer or another host, Telegram returns a 409 Conflict error and the two copies fight. Stop the other copy first. A token can also be added to only one BotifyHost account.
